Burnaby's mall, Metrotown, hosted a party to celebrate the flame coming through their city. While going down the escalator, I spotted something I don't often see at Metrotown, Russian tourists!
On the lower level, bag pipers (is that a word?) led in the dignitaries there for the event. The people following are the Mayor of Burnaby, the MP, counsellors and school board trustees.
Chinese dragons for the dragon dance. I didn't stay to see the actual dance but ran into the dragon heads decked out in the Vancouver Olympic logo
This was a Metis Indian dancer who performed.
More Metis dancers. They could really move!
Students from one of the schools had baked a large cupcake cake to hand out to the dignitaries present. The mayor is the one in the white coat.
This lovely lady is Courtney Knight and this will be her fifth Olympics I believe they said. Usually she is in the summer Olympics but this year she will be in the winter one. She was graciously signing autographs following her introduction. She is a Paralympian and only has 10 % of her vision.

Lots more great giveaways today, I came home with flags and flag pins and mascot stickers and also enjoyed two bite brownies decorated with white icing and red sprinkles, fruit snacks, and coffee, hot chocolate or bottled water. (I picked the water) And one more day till the opening ceremonies!! Rumors are running wild with theories of whom will carry in the torch to light the cauldron....I am guessing Wayne Gretsky.
