HAPPY PINK SATURDAY

I have some very fond memories of spending some vacation time at the "pink lady" hotel in Waikiki many years ago. It's real name was "The Royal Hawaiian Hotel". At that time they had these large books listing the properties amenities in the drawer of the desk and the folder was a large pink padded folder type of book and had stationary, postcards and other things of interest in it. Pink was their theme and the hotel was so pretty sitting there in the tropical sun with the beach out the door!

HAPPY PINK SATURDAY

I was remembering about life in Hawaii and remembered the beautiful pink flamingo's at the Honolulu Zoo near Kapiolani Park. They are so pretty!!

HAPPY PINK SATURDAY

I started thinking about what other pink things I can remember and a pink Cadillac came to my mind something like this one! Imagine driving around town in this beauty!!

HAPPY PINK SATURDAY

After a very busy week, I am back to post on Pink Saturday. For more info on this event please click on the Pink Saturday logo on my sidebar and thanks to Beverly at How Sweet The Sound for hosting this event each week.

Tonight I was wandering through a local store and saw the neatest thing...a PINK Vacuum cleaner!! How cool is this? I believe it is made by the Dyson company. I love it!!

HAPPY WHITE WEDNESDAY

Well, technically it is now Thursday but I decided Wednesday should be called white Wednesday because much to my amazement, after a drive of about 30 minutes or a little longer on the freeway, I found myself engulfed in a blizzard...yet again... those who know me know my irrational fear of being anywhere in a vehicle in the snow. Needless to say I headed home in a real hurry and cut my appointment short. When I had left home it was pouring rain, which is typical for here. The weatherman said there could be flurries in the evening at higher elevations...I was a sea level near the beach and it was 1 pm.... so how exactly that is a higher elevation is beyond me and it was certainly nowhere near evening. I think we need new weather people in these parts...or maybe just new weather!! The good news is the salt truck just salted our hill so there is a chance we will not be house bound tomorrow...it is still lightly snowing outside and hopefully it will stay just lightly snowing and not escalate as soon as I turn out the lights!

Happy Pink Saturday

I am totally disorganized this week and did not get anything at all ready for Pink Saturday...shame on me...I am just going to visit some of the blogs on Beverly's list at How Sweet The Sound (click on the Pink Saturday logo on my sidebar and you will get to her blog and the list) I had a lovely lunch at our local Tom Horton's with Loretta (House of Houben) and her hubby Robert today and we had a chance to have a little visit. It seems as though it has been a long time as we have both been sick and with my babysitting stuff...not much time for extras ....but it was a lovely almost spring day and the sun was shining through the windows in the restaurant and it was a nice way to spend a bit of Saturday! OK...I have now located the pinkest picture I could find taken a few days ago when a package from a friend arrived with this lovely Sleeping Beauty dress for Dakotah. As you can see, she is thrilled. I will try and get myself out and taking pink pictures. Whoops...I found another "pink" picture of my vintage Canadian Chatty Cathy in a beautiful pink creation made by Gloria's Goodies on Ebay.

It Feels Like Spring!

It is absolutely beautiful outside today. I hope it means spring is almost here! My flower bulbs are getting taller, the sun is shining and all is lovely at the moment. My hubby took all the coverings off of the palm tree as he says the sun is warm and the leaves will burn if left covered. I have to admit I was very nervous this year as it has never been this cold before since the palm tree has resided here. I think I have probably had it for about 15 years. It has been moved once and survived and seems to be quite hardy but it was sooo cold this year and my imagination was running wild and imagining the poor thing being dead beneath the coverings! Hopefully the temperatures will stay fairly stable for the next little while.

I FINALLY FINISHED THE SCRAPBOOK!!!

Wow, I finally finished the scrapbook for Dakotah. I have so many pages in it they keep falling out so I may have to separate into two albums at some point but it was a great feeling to finally get it done. Scrap booking is fun but very labor intensive and costly....I don't know how many trips I ended up making to Michael's store for more "stuff" for it but it will be something she will treasure as she gets older. It was also a nice trip down memory lane for me to look at all the lovely pictures of Anaheim and the pretty flowers. And for me to remember what it was like to actually "feel" warm!! To say it was warm while we were there is putting it mildly. One day while we were in Toontown in Disneyland the temperature was 114 degrees. My hubby, who actually hails from the South Pacific, visibly wilted, and his mood was not pleasant so we sent him back to the hotel. Dakotah and I stuck around there for many more hours. It was very HOT but we found some indoor air conditioned attractions to keep us busy until the sun set. Going through all the pictures brought back many memories and renewed the hope that one day soon it may even get warm! I can't complain though. Today the sun was out and it was a lovely day. chilly but lovely!

Thanks for the comments!

Thanks to all who commented on my Pink Saturday things. I am still deep in the mound of stuff to put together the scrapbook of our Disney trip last summer...I can't believe how overwhelming this project is and how many hours it has taken me!! Consequently I haven't been to as many of the blogs as I would like too but I will try and get to as many as possible through the upcoming days and week ahead. The ones I did view are so pretty and creative! I woke up to a gorgeous bouquet of flowers waiting for me on the table yesterday morning from my hubby and he also bought me a pile of tickets for the Millionaire Lottery....now that would be a nice Valentine present win!! LOL We also went out to a nice restaurant for dinner last night. We went early and got in ahead of the crowds. When we left, the place was packed to the rafters with people waiting for tables. We had to fight our way out of the door as people were everywhere!! We did have a very lovely dinner, though! And it was fun just having the two of us and not the entire family with kids that usually accompanies us to special occasions.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY AND WHAT A GREAT DAY FOR PINKS!

What a wonderful day for "Pink Saturday" to fall on!! It is Valentines Day and the perfect day for this event! Thanks so much to Beverly at How sweet The Sound for hosting this event. The list of entries for other wonderful "pink" blogs can be found on Beverly's blog at http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/

My special pink Valentine pictured at the top of my post is a lovely hand made creation made by my friend (who is very sick this week) Loretta at The House of Houben. I am not sure if she will be well enough to participate in this weeks event which is a shame as Valentine's is one of her favorite holiday's. Actually, truth be told, all the holiday's are Loretta's favorite and she has a special flare for decorating her home for each! The pretty card she made for me features tiny reproductions of vintage Valentines on a white lace paper heart attached to a pretty pink card! And inside the card (which is also gorgeous too) were a bunch of tiny doll size Valentines that I placed around the card for the picture! There is just no end to this gal's talent! Get well soon, Loretta!!

PINK SATURDAY!

Today was the preschool Valentine Party. I was going to take boring pretzels but last night I decided to bake instead and make pretty pink iced sugar cookies for Dakotah to take to preschool to share with her friends at their party.

PINK SATURDAY

Last Saturday at my granddaughter's fifth birthday, her other Grandma, Donna, unveiled a project she has spent been hours of hard work creating. She made a comforter/quilt for Dakotah and hand painted the Disney Princess's onto it. It is a beautiful work of art that is even more gorgeous in person! And another gorgeous "pink" to admire!

PINK SATURDAY!

Tonight I have been working on a scrapbook. Last June we had the pleasure and joy of taking out then 4 year old granddaughter to Disneyland. One of the gorgeous pinks we saw there was Sleeping Beauty...how pretty and pink she is! And the little princess posing with her is pretty darned cute in pink also! I finished Dakotah's Princess scrapbook last summer but never quite got the general Disney photo album done so have been working on it tonight. I have a long ways to go yet and I have run out of supplies so I guess a trip back to Michael's will be needed tomorrow!

HAPPY VALENTINE WEEK!

THIS AND THAT

Dakotah is still not 100% better after her bout with a nasty virus on Monday however she has gone off to preschool as they are having a Valentine's Day party. They made cute Valentine heart holders for their Valentines and they are all pinned up on the black board so this morning they each put their Valentines into their friends envelopes. On Friday they will bring them home.

It is nice and peaceful and quiet here today after the boisterous large party of yesterday.

Thank you to everyone who viewed and commented on my Pink Saturday photos. The cupcakes were delicious! The party dress was a hit and the Birthday girl looked very pretty in it. I will continue to view the Pink Saturday blogs through the week. All the ones I saw thus far are wonderful!!

I will post a photo or two of the birthday girl in her birthday dress.

PINK SATURDAY

And now a break for pretty pink cupcakes that went to preschool today to share with her classmates!

Speaking of Pink...I just found this one on the camera card, this is Katie Effanbee Perfect Portrait doll, and she is a stunning pink confection!

PINK SATURDAY

The birthday dress she chose herself at The Bay. It is so pretty in person with it's big pink flowers and bow. And yes, I do know it is winter around here but her Mom said she would try and find a little shrug or sweater in case she is cold. this dress even has a crinoline under it just like in the old days...haha

PINK SATURDAY

It is once again Pink Saturday. I did not let Beverly at How Sweet the Sound know I would be participating this weekend as I have a very important birthday party today and don't think I will have a chance to visit everyone's blogs. Beverly and the list is at http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/ so take a peek at her blog and some of the others she will have listed if you are hunting for some sweet pink things to look at and some wonderful blogs to peruse. There are just so many creative bloggers out there and last Saturday, my first Pink Saturday, was a real treat.

As I mentioned above, today is the big birthday party and the start of a new era in my little granddaughters life. She turned the big FIVE Friday. My pink things today are going to be dedicated to her big day. I still can't believe she will be going to school soon...real school...she has been at play school, preschool etc for years but this next step is the real deal. She will be out in public every morning on her own...I was also thinking that in one year her brother will be old enough to go to preschool on his own for the spring session so I will have a few mornings free each week...well, semi free...after the early morning rush to get them fed and out the door. I wonder if preschool will be ready for him...he is a handful! So, without further adieu, here are my pinks this week.

ONE MORE SLEEP

One more sleep till Dakotah turns 5. Wow...5...I remember holding her in the hospital while they did her blood tests when she was born and it seems like yesterday. It is hard to believe it is almost 5 years. Five years ago right now I was busy sewing a doll dress. My Mom was in hospital. About 12:30 am I got the call that Nicci was in hospital and Dakotah was about to be born. After she was born, James wanted to take Dakotah to see my Mom who was in the same hospital but it wasn't allowed as there were too many bugs floating around the med/surg floors so early the next morning James went to the area Mom was in and got a wheelchair and took her for a ride to maternity. Boy was she surprised.....the baby and Nicci were in the hospital for several days so Mom spent a lot of time on maternity getting to know her new little great granddaughter. I spent a lot of time there also and eventually drove them all home from the hospital. And now I have been baking cupcakes for her to share at preschool tomorrow. Time sure does fly by.

ROSE'S SEWING

Awhile back I was in a Christmas swap on one of my doll groups and someone had asked Rose Thompson to make an outfit for their swap mate. Well, I fell in love with the pictures of the outfit so a couple of weeks ago I contacted Rose and asked if she would make one that I could purchase from her. She said sure! She is an awesome seamstress, I own a number of her doll clothes creations and am always happy with her beautiful clothes. She was also the maker of a Dorthy Wizard of Oz jumper I once saw. Hers was a little different than the others that other seamstresses have made in that she puts a thick layer of tulle trimmed with lace under the skirt and it stands out so pretty. So, while I was placing my order I asked her if she would make me a jumper like the one I had seen so this was in the box also. It even has matching panties! I just love it! I can't wait to dress my dolls in their new clothes!! Rose does do doll clothes for sale and also occasionally sells on Ebay under rosetsewing I believe. If anyone wants to commission her to make anything for their dolls, her prices are very reasonable, she is very quick and her quality is awesome. If you contact me I can pass along any inquiries to her. Thanks!

SUNNY WEDNESDAY!

There is nothing like waking up in the morning and having no rain ...then as the sun...yes sun...rises and shines, it boosts your energy and mood. Today is one of those days, the sun is shining brightly, the sky is blue, and it is not cold outside. In fact I heard we will even reach a double digit for temperature today which for our US friends, means over 50 degrees. Positively balmy!!

I took a picture of the Baby Alive we won in the Energizer Toy an Hour contest which is going to be included with Dakotah's birthday gifts. And the mailman brought a package this morning. I will post pictures of it a bit later.

FREEBIE HEAVEN!!

It is a great week for freebies so far. Yesterday a courier arrived with the Energizer Toy an Hour contest prize. It was a Baby Alive Wet and Wiggles doll....great timing for the little Miss's birthday this weekend. Today Canada Post delivered a box with 6 full sized bottles of Herbal Essence Shampoo and Conditioner from Elle magazine. They would like me to complete a survey after using the product for 5 days so that is no big deal! I am more than happy to fill out surveys for free products!!

Groundhogs and Weather

From news1130's webmail: Shubenacadie Sam in Nova Scotia, Wiarton Willie in Ontario, and Punxsutawney Phil in Pennsylvania all predict six more weeks of winter. News1130 Meteorologist Russ Lacate says a groundhog in the lower mainland wouldn't see a shadow this morning - that means spring-like weather instead.

Well yeah!....spring like weather ahead is music to my ears. I have to be totally honest and say that today for the first time in what seems like forever, when I walked Dakotah to school I was TOO warm in my winter coat. Usually I am cold despite the winter coat.

The daffodil bulbs are getting higher also in my outdoor gardens. I am just keeping my eye on the lilac bush/tree in front of the house because when that starts to get little green buds, it means we are getting really close. Nothing yet though. The snow of yesterday never did materialize in my area. The grass is green and soggy and the roads wet and clear. It was coming down like crazy for a good part of the day yesterday but luckily it didn't stick.

IT IS THE WEEKEND SO IT MUST BE SNOWING!

Well here we are at Sunday night again and I am wondering where the weekend went to. Thanks for the compliments given on Dakotah. She went home about 1 today as I had to take my Mom on one of her Walmart shopping excursions. We go every couple of weeks so she can stock up on stuff that is way too expensive at Safeway. Somehow every time we make plans to go somewhere, the snow starts and today was no exception. We did our shopping trip and went and got a bite to eat. The highlight of her going out for dinner is the dessert and apparently the place we usually go to, White Spot, has decided in all their wisdom to no longer serve pie. This distressed her to no end. I was meanwhile watching outside as once again cars were zipping by with a fair amount of snow on their roofs. Luckily we completed our trip and the roads remained clear. She talked me into a pit stop at IHOP who does still have her lemon pie! I got home and was advised Dakotah had called to see if I was done shopping yet...haha...she sure does keep a tight rein on me! Hopefully the snow will turn to rain overnight so we can be somewhat mobile this week.
